Green Tech: The Technologies Leading the Fight Against Climate Change

alva’s analysis highlights the green energy technologies that are coming out on top since war broke out in Ukraine.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February and discussion of winter energy price rises, green technology has seen increasing visibility. Although renewables such as solar continued to generate mostly positive sentiment, lesser-known technologies like bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) topped rankings.

alva’s latest report looks at the visibility of these different green technologies between April and June, with some seeing negative sentiment in the face of the global energy crisis.

Key findings of the report include:

• BECCS garners the top sentiment score of 46, which was driven by investments such as the £3bn by Drax.
• Heatwaves across Europe and attempts to move away from reliance on Russian gas helped push up visibility of solar power.
• Hydrogen continues to perform well in relation to industry groups, boosted by the UK Government’s £375m package for innovative energy tech, as well as the HySupply 2 competition.
• There is negative sentiment around natural gas due to conversations surrounding fuel poverty and gas shortages due to reduced Russian gas on the grid.
